If you can only eat in one place in all of Pete, make sure that it’s Puerta’s del Cielo. I’m serious. In nearly 10 years in Guatemala this is one of the most memorable dining experiences I’ve had. The food was phenomenal, the wine and whiskey selection blew my mind for the location, and the service was wonderful. There is no menu and my dishes were curated to my taste and desire for the evening. Smoked pork chop ? Yes. Pasta cooked perfectly in a delicious and authentic sauce ? Yes. A salad that balanced it all out ? Yes. Martin, my server, was also wonderfully attentive. I sat with the owner Bernie and talked culture, food, and art until closing. A sincerely enjoyable evening in Flores. Don’t miss out on this experience!
One of the best pastas I’ve had in a long time, the sauce is just divine! You’ll definitely be well fed here. The atmosphere is amazing too, makes you feel right at home!nnBut because the restaurant was quite busy and it takes a while to take orders as there isn’t a menu, service can be a bit slow so make sure you aren’t in a huge hurry to be anywhere.
Bistro Puertas del Cielo is an unusual restaurant. They have no menu. I had an early dinner there on a Monday. Bernie, the owner worn a T-shirt, a short pant, and bared footed. He sat down at my table and we started negotiating the dinner options. It was an unique experience. The seafood paste and white fish with grilled vegetables came out surprisingly nice. Bernie also shared some of his personal stories and was inspiring. He is an amazing character. The next day, I had an early dinner there again. The steak and banana foster were well prepared. He shared more of his stories in his previous lives. Well, the best part of my trip to Guatemala is running into Bernie. I offered to take him to experience my favorite Cantonese roasted duck and American steak when he visits me in Los Angeles in the future.
The best pasta I've ever eaten. A unique experience without a menu, where the chef asks you a few questions and suggests a dish for you. Excellent value. In my case, I made pasta with shrimp, mushrooms, and pesto.
The first time I went, the wait felt like a long time. But then I understood why, and it was worth every minute of waiting. Which made me come back a second time. The two different dishes, first pasta with shrimp and then a meat and vegetable dish, sound simple, but the flavor makes all the difference. The price in both cases was 155Q. A more than reasonable price for the quality of the food. Don't miss the opportunity to eat here! 10/10
We waited 45 minutes for someone to approach us and nobody has (we asked for service several times).
This restaurant made me feel right at home. Bernie, the owner sat with us, shared stories about life, and talked about what inspired him to open the place. The food was incredible—full of heart and flavor. It’s rare to find a spot where the meal warms your body and the people warm your heart.
Incredible operation that Bernie has going here. Super authentic feel, no menu, Bernie comes out personally and creates an ideal meal for you based on your preferences. He offers insight into what flavours, meats and veggies complement each other. One of my favourite places to eat in Guatemala. Will definitely go back when I am in Flores.
Great custom made food and cocktail. Recommended for dinner.
